Ubuntu 6.10 Compiz with cheap Nvidia card
Tue 07th Aug '07
I have got Ubuntu 6.10 running compiz on my Nvidia Geforce 6800 card (a cheap as chips $80 card with 128mb ram). I am surprised by how well it works. All the animations work smoothly, except the flames one which can glitch a bit. When I think about the super computer you need to run Vista Aero... here I have better effects, working smoother... on a P4 2.4Ghz with 512Mb Ram and a crappy AGP video card. Gotta love that. Admittedly, you do have to jump through some hoops to install it, but it wasnt a real headache. I just googled it like I always do...
Soon I have to give my mate's Dell 24inch TFT monitor back, and install my 2x19inch TFTs instead... so making it work on multiple monitors might be a trick. I can see the hoops now!
