Thirsty Merc rocked
Sat 08th Oct '05
I went down and watched the band Thirsty Merc play at the Plantation hotel on wednesday night. It was pretty awesome. Ive seen them and met them before (it helps when your housemate and the bassplayer are...mates) and thought they were great at the Yamba golf club, but the pub atmosphere was better. I also wasnt as drunk, and had a chance to pay more attention to the music. They are actually musically quite interesting, and I had no idea Rai (lead singer) could play the piano. He's really good. Phil (the bassplayer - insert flushed expression from Mae-Amy here) played a double bass at one stage which he did a great job of. Shaun had a great guitar sound, although that vintage vox guitar amplifier could make anyone sound great. I'm so jealous. And I was impressed by how tight they were, and the sound guys did well too, Karl's drum sound could have levelled a forest. Sounded great.
The support band was Dan Kelly, and they were pretty good too. It shows how much difference being well known makes though, no-one was dancing at all, then when Merc came on people just meterialised from nowhere and it was standing room only. Merc were awesome, but Dan was pretty good too - I'd go to see them at a pub.
Anyway, we had a great time. Shame I had to work the next day - I was half dead!
Take it easy, everyone.
